May Day 2026 Actions: Art Build | YES Student Day of Action | May Day Rally and March
April 13, 2026

Friday, May 1st is International Workers Day. For years, MTEA members have taken personal days to join Voces de la Frontera and fellow workers on May 1st in historic marches to demand immigrants’, workers’ and students’ rights.
This May Day, MTEA members are joining Voces de la Frontera for multiple events: two days of Art Builds, a Student Day of Action and the annual May Day March.
Art Build: April 18 and 19

Next Saturday and Sunday, April 18 and 19, MTEA will join a two-day art build at the Voces de la Frontera office (737 W. Mitchell St.) from 10am to 5pm both days. MTEA members and Youth Empowered in the Struggle (YES) students can make May Day signs supporting immigrant rights and economic justice as well as signs designed by MTEA Member Art Teachers Paige Bauske and John Fleissner with messaging for our budget fight with the district, like “Cut Contracts, Not Classrooms!” and “FULL 2.63% COLA July 1st!”

YES Student Day of Action: April 24

On Friday, April 24, YES students will hold a Student Day of Action at all MPS high schools with YES chapters. Students will gather and picket outside their schools with signs made at the Art Build, including signs with the Budget Fight messaging. They will be picked up by buses at 10am and taken to Cathedral Square where they will be joined by students from neighboring districts for a 4-block radius march around Cathedral Square.
May Day Rally and March: Friday, May 1

MTEA members will join Voces and other community advocates in front of the Voces office, 737 W. Mitchell St., no later than 10am for a rally. At 11am, the march will begin at the Voces office and head to the Federal building in downtown Milwaukee, 517 E. Wisconsin Ave. There will be a rally and speaking program at the Federal building.
Friday, May 1 is a non-student attendance day, but is a work day. Members can take a personal day to attend the rally. Click here to RSVP!
