MPS Meeting about Bilingual and Multilingual Education
June 3 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
MPS Administration has jeopardized the future of bilingual education as we know it in MPS.
After pressure from MTEA members and the community, MPS Administration was pressured into holding a public stakeholder meeting on bilingual and multilingual education this Wednesday, June 3, 2026 from 5:00–6:30 PM at the MPS Central Services Auditorium. Administration will be presenting long-term strategic planning, compliance frameworks and commitments, biliteracy and the Science of Reading, professional development and support networks.
This meeting is an opportunity for MTEA members to share feedback regarding proposed cuts and restructuring within the Department of Multilingual Multicultural Education (DMME), biliteracy implementation, professional development for bilingual and ESL staff, and the long-term vision for bilingual education in MPS.
MTEA members who work in bilingual and ESL programs have a professional and moral responsibility to attend this stakeholder meeting and make their voices heard. Educators understand firsthand the importance of culturally and linguistically responsive instruction, and now is the time to stand together to protect and strengthen bilingual programs for students and families across MPS!
